Looks like the resto work has been done to a very high standard loving the retro look with the red and GB's

That really suits the period, but not my style... Maybe some bronze banded steel wheels besides the GB'sDr S wrote:How about gold?

Re: 1971 Early MK3 850
Thanks! The bodywork is the basis for a good resto and is the hardest to redo, so first time right! I love mk1 and 2's, but wanted a bit different to restore. You don't see too many early mk3's around restored to a high level. Maybe it will appeal to more people now the prices of mini's from the 60's are increasing...minimissions wrote:Looks like the resto work has been done to a very high standard loving the retro look with the red and GB's

Some great progress on the '71, and loving the direction this project is going.
I'd stick with the silver rims myself.

It has been a while, but not without progress!!!
NOS Lucas rearlights and badges + rechromed boothandel + fuelcap is temporary in black
Still struggeling with the wiring, although it is a new autosparks loom... But this more due to being new to this area...
Some work on the interior:
Frame repainted and new cushoins:
headlining:
New seatbelts:
Dashboard:
Adding some nice accessories fitted:
- Kidd speed stainless steel steering drop bracket
- Speedwell Rev counter
- Broadspeed revcounter pod
- 13" Springall steering wheel (Thanks to Kees UHR850 )

Re: 1971 Early MK3 850
you need to get a hairdrier on that headlining and get some more tension into it

Thank you for the replies! Even in Dutch
and the headlining absolutely needs some more heat and tension, but will allow it to settle a bit first.

Re: 1971 Early MK3 850
Beautiful job. I can only wish my van project turns out that well. Will be the same colour
The front looks better with the smaller indicators. Cars bound for CA had those larger ones installed also....yuck
I just noticed your thumb screws for the grill are fairly low....is there a reason for this ( maybe to hide behind over riders?)

Re: 1971 Early MK3 850
Thanks for the compliment!
I have placed them a bit lower to get them out of sight a bit. Still needs some adjustment to get it straight on the car though.
To be honest I got carried away with the standard of the car this far...

Re: 1971 Early MK3 850
Unfortunately for the early GB wheels the nuts were made from magnesium and are no longer available, therefore we will make custom made wheel nuts
Rear also has the NOS all red rear lensens fitted
Therefore we decided to make some steel banded wheels, with period tyres (kept in dark storage) for show in the mean time.
Actually quite like this look
We have made the nuts as well, so I can swap wheels now:

Unfortunately we haven't started/ driven yet - the last bits tend to take the most time - but very happy with the result so far!!!
