ive been having a clear out and i came agross this rather scruffy old head.
Does anybody know what the K.K stands for on this head and why its stamped up 12g938 whilst its a 12g940 casting? is this just the person thats worked the head and a old fashioned spec?
its in a bit of a unloved condition at the moment but i was debating whether or not to save it? ie clean it up. its had a 'wedge' lobbed off it and im not sure you could get it to run on todays fuel! hahaha but its had some effort put into it at some point.
i was just wondering if one of you boffs might know anything about this type of head and i dont!
The head has had some work done, although the K stamps may be original stamps. 12G1805 heads have similar stamps.
Don't know which valves it has right now, but I think it originally should have been a small valve head, maybe from Sprites or Midgets. Rumor has it it has a thicker deck and is a good casting to modify - never measured / seen one personally.
I also believe this one to be the 940 head which looks like the 163 head from the top. Can you take a picture of the top part, heater tap side?
Yeh I've been doing a bit of research on them and I'm also thinking it might be midget. It also suggests they were thick cast or something better for porting etc which this one certainly looks to have had done I measured it against a brand new 12g940 casting I have and it measured about 2.7mm thinner! I was shocked! Haha
I'l get the valves out tonight and check for cracks!
