stripping the gearbox of my mk2, i have discovered it doesnt have the usual rubber cross, but these:

looks like nylon outer part, to a metal inner cross, the nylon parts are sleeved with roller bearings inside and simply slot on...

I have some hardys to go on anyway, but wasnt sure if these were standard or an aftermarket part!??

My old Cooper had a set of these. I think these were a period 'upgrade' - aimed to achieve the same effect as stiffer Lotus rubber couplings , to take the flex out of the driveline.

Mine had several cracks, I don't know if this is a common fault? perhaps as a result of the heat and oil on the harder nylon?

These are Quinton Hazell QL5000. A very popular aftermarket conversion. There were also ones with metal cups replacing the nylon ones. All with needle rollers inside.

The nylon kit has been revived by Mini Spares and others. Here is the current Mini Spares kit.

I've got steel ones on my 62 sal driveshafts and in the spares horde a pair of plastic brand new Supra ones very similar to the QH

Yes, the QH version are crap. DONT fit them to a race car. They are a quick and nasty substitute for the proper thing. They can fly to pieces in a most spectacular way!!!! You have been warned.

I pulled a Hardy Spicer (Australia) one off the 850 engine I'm stripping at the moment. It lokks to be very good quality, its a shame it has bits missing.

I have a full set of the metal ones as well, closest thing I can get to hardy spicers without swapping the whole driveline, I had to replace the u-joints once, I think it needed u-joints from a jag. I don't see any worry about the steel ones flying apart
