HT lead identification

Post by Andrew1967 »

Anyone able to identify if these are original or aftermarket HT leads ? They are of the screw-in coil type and side entry cap.

Thanks in advance :)

The rubber insulators look like Ripaults Andrew, possibly a DIY set.

Just FYI, if you’re looking for NOS/repro leads I got a WC200 set from eBay “Mr Retro leads and plugs” https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?_odkw ... _nkw=wc200

Thanks Robin, they probably are Ripaults.

Nice lead sets though that look passable as 'correct'. Will probably list them at some point .

I have some proper Champion caps and leads for HOY :)

There's a Ripaults kit on Ebay just now, I already have one so not much use to me, handy to have though, even if only for the crimper.

Sorry, don't mean to hijack this thread but I bought a set of leads from these guys. they look nice but when measuring resistance of the leads they measure many hundreds of k Ohms close to 1M Ohm. I am surprised they don't just use straight copper conductors so now I am concerned that my stock ignition system may not have enough snot to fire this reliably.

Is this sort of high impedance expected?

Have a read through this, a good clear explanation on the different conductor types

If you're running points and not bothered about interference I would use copper core.

Just changed out from the high impedance ‘retro’ carbon string leads to a set of ‘works type’ copper core bumble-bee leads. It seemed to help with an intermittent misfire I was having - but I suspect the actual problem is a weak coil; I have an SA12 going in next.
