Gear Change knuckle

Evening all, just looking up the female gear change knuckle and looking at the machining, am I missing some kind of detent ?

Typed it out three times but still sounds weird.

nothing goes in it before the male knuckle, except grease

There's always assembly lube... At least it doesn't smell 'earthy'.
