Van Tank Sender Fitment, Cork Gasket Type

Post by ianh1968 »

I have a brand new "stainless" tank, a new sender,
6 off screws and a cork gasket... (and no instructions).

I've worked out that the screws are 8-32 UNC by 3/8" long.
I can get some stainless versions.

I have also seen, but not got, some copper washers...

What is the correct method of assembly? It's for a Mini-Marcos
and it will be very difficult to sort out if it decides to leak when
I fill it up. I'd like this to not be the case.

Do I "goo" the gasket to the sender, then stick it in with some
grease that will get dissolved by the fuel, or what?

Help Please!

when I have done them, I have always just done them dry, with a little smear of grease on the faces

the cork will swell a little once it has the fuel on it, so shouldn't leak, its when cork is used as a gasket that requires a vacuum and it dries out it can be a problem (i.e on a fuel tap downwind of the pumps (guess how I know this....))
