Y-piece clamps
Hi folks,
When taking the engine out last week I spotted that one of the square shouldered bolts that go through the clamp on the Y-piece had got bent and thus it threaded when I took it off.
Can I buy just the bolts anywhere as they make it easy with the car being so low as I don't need to get anything on the other side.
Ta!

Re: Y-piece clamps
Better with some stainless 'Mikalor' clamps, better than the 'shite' ones supplied with the manifolds.

Re: Y-piece clamps
As above mine have bolted up tight enough, the supplied mild steel efforts just bend/strench and bottom out anyway.

Re: Y-piece clamps
They have quite limited size range Tom, you'd be best measuring your pipes.
The ones in Swiftys photo look like 40-43mm - you can get more than that 3mm range from them, but not much!

Re: Y-piece clamps
Watch out when buying stainless steel clamps, some have shitty/flimsy
mild steel ferrules in them...
This is where I get mine - They look the same as Swifty's:
http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/s ... eel+clamps
The smaller sizes have an M6 bolt and the larger ones are M8. The ferrules are
made from solid bar and they are 100% stainless. They are stamped "INOX W5".
Being an "Official Wanker", I file the writing off the bolt heads and buff them up to
a mirror finish. They look really nice when you're standing in front of the car...
For a large bore Maniflow, the two Y-Piece clamps are 44-47.
As GraemeC says, get the right size as any diameter error will be multiplied by "pi".
For example, to crush up 3mm, this will equate to a 10mm gap reduction between
the ferrules. (Approximately)...

Re: Y-piece clamps
Why?.... Its a respectable term. It must be... the head Chaplain of the US Air Farce once commenced Grace at as very high level dinner with the words "Lord, help us not to be wankers ....."mk1 wrote:I have asked Smiffy to remove his "interesting" Signature.

Apparently he'd overheard a certain son of transported convicts using the term and on querying the meaning had been told that the term was used to describe individuals who "...over-indulged in self gratification ". He thought this was something better avoided.....
Cheers, Ian
Re: Y-piece clamps
Right changed the signature, knew I should of put unofficial, mind you would still of upset the deniers amongst us.
