I never did manage to get fully to grips with the TYJ system I had. I am however following this thread with great interest.

Sorry I can't make any useful input.

As am I, We never could get ours set up correctly it seemed to change with the weather! one race it was great the next running like a pig so we went to Amals and at least had a bit of stability. but that engine really woke up after fitting webbers........

Hello minimans you seem to hit the nail on the head about weather conditions regarding running tj systems .mine on a cool night was superb running like a train . Next time a noticeable drop in power acceleration or pick up through corners .ive come across jons problem ie no fuel with pumps on .pessure at 25psi either turn pressure up gradually or unscrew fuel distributor till fuel drips through injectors about 2 drops per second .the racing system is all or nothing rich bottom end acceptable mixture at full throttle .tj did say you could improve it by adding extra regulators in the fuel lines .in other words a bit of free research and development by its customers.

Thanks all for help and suggestions.

Graham, What you say about playing the pressure valve against the valve below the distributor is just what I am doing right now, and yes, they do change things quite dramatically.

Off to Sicily for the weekend. I know the car is nowhere near right, but what the hell. 2 days on a circuit will give me the perfect opportunity to play and experiment. Hopefully by the time I get back on Tuesday I will have good news to report. In the meantime, even if I don't make much progress with the car, a lap of the Targa Florio (47 miles), meeting old friends, a couple of days at the track at Racalmuto (www.autodromovalledeitempli.eu), and loads of super Sicilian food and wine, should more than make the trip worth while.

Yes Jon set it up on the road or track.ive spent god knows hours in the garage thinking that sounds right taking it out for a test drive and realising it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding or how come that little old lady in a micro is about to overtake me  .the simple thing with the tj is you only need a couple of scanners and screwdrivers to do any adjustments .get that metering unit cable adjustment right that is more critical than you may think good luck .

Back from another enjoyable trip to Sicily, and very encouraged by the progress. I spent most of the time in and out of the pits making small changes. It's still running very rich throughout but it's very clean right through the rev range with no flat spots and very good pickup. I put the camera in on one of the final runs. You can find it on the Motorsport Team Malta Facebook page here:

Finished the day on a sour note when I had a drive problem, but nothing that can't be sorted before the next round on the 19th and 20th of July. Progress is going in the right direction. Engine is already out, and it should be running again within a few days.

Keep up the good work John.

I am really enjoying your bulletins. Both about your season & your continuing development of your TJ Injection.

Looking forward to the next one already.

UPDATE AFTER LAST WEEKEND'S RACE MEETING.

We were at the Racalmuto circuit in Sicily again last weekend, having made quite a few mods to the 8 port injected engine. Main mod was the cylinder head which has had new valves and guides.

As far as the injection is concerned, I have reduced the pressure on the valve at the distributor to almost zero, and brought the pressure valve on the return side inside the cockpit, easily accessible while I drive. Softening the spring pressure makes it weaker, tightening it pushes more fuel to the injectors. But fiddling with a valve whilst driving is not ideal. It is still too weak at the top when it's right at the bottom, and vice versa. By elimination we are therefore down to 2 items that can be wrong - the profile of the fuel cam in the metering unit, or the setting of the fuel valve that is operated by the cam. Filing more off the cam at the initial stage (low revs) is a possible solution, but I am thinking more in terms of the setting of the fuel valve. Can anybody point me to an easy and accurate way of adjusting this?

For the record, from 14 laps on Sunday I had 3 below my previous best of 1.25.6 and a best lap of 1.24.3. AFR still gets frighteningly high towards the end of the straight - around 14.5, and I have to wind open the return valve whilst entering or exiting the pits as otherwise the engine is impossibly rich.

Sorry, it's the wrong place here. But it's just a nice assembly of experts. Going up to 1700 meters, it's better to have smaller main nozzles or bigger air corrections on my 40 DCOEs?

Another TJ injection page was opened recently. Might be a good idea if we all put our experiences / problems in one page.

I have now done a season of racing with the Mini on the TJ injection. I don't think it's ever been absolutely right, nevertheless I have had total reliability, 3 class wins,3 seconds and a 3rd, so no complaints there.

Happy New Year to all

Well done Joe just rewards for all the hard work....keep it up for all our sakes.

Pete I missed the post of the KDK picture...... I was on holiday....... no guilty feelings though first for 7 years

It is a really nice picture and it has the Austin badges and Grille in this one ....for a change!!! the prize money must have been more for the highest placed Austin ..... the rules according to 'Whizzo'

I now have 2 sets of the original Vita style TJ Throttle bodies as seen in the Castrol /Vita workshop pictures.

They allow the bonnet to close per Gp5 regs, even with the trumpets fitted but would probably not have been as efficient as the later OE TJ siamesed bodies on a Webber style inlet manifold, but I think these came out too late for the '68 ETCC season.
