T J Fuel Injection

Post by John Bull »

If there is already a thread on this subject please guide me to it.

If not, does anyone have any info, working experience with it?

I had TJ mechanical injection on my spaceframe car over 30 years ago. It worked superbly. I am now fitting it to a restored Group 5 car for historic racing, but can remember little about original settings.

Any help would be appreciated.

Trevor I dont recognise the throttle bodies, and is that quite a large diameter toothed pulley on the engine driven fuel pump?
What size belt pulley are you using on the crank output (ratio wise to fuel pump)?

Looks good though.!

Hi Graham
Very nice indeed, but sadly not quite right for me according to the pictures I have of my cars.
I think the correct ones may still be the ones you have but on a different manifold keeping them under the std bonnet.
Need better pictures to confirm this though.....anyone out there with better under bonnet close-ups of KDK 320F in 1968-1969?

Hi App K
The pulleys appear to be a variety of sizes I have pumps with 40, 41 and 42 teeth.
The ratio needs to be such that the distribution pump runs at no more than 6000rpm so the size is (almost) irrelevent.
I have several references from TJ letters/manuals/leaflets to this effect

Hi Graham
That's what Vita did I am sure, as the ones on their other cars look like the same as your throttle bodies but they do protrude through the bonnets.
The ones they offered for sale in 1969 (see Mk 1 main website brochures) would need a mod to the bonnet, minor they say, but a hole would be required.

The throttle bodies were made recently by a friend in Agira, a little mountain village in Sicily. He's a competent engineer, specialising mainly in producing gears for boxes and diffs. We raced regularly together over 40 years ago, and have stayed in touch. He still has the old Group 5 FIAT X19 he raced then, in his garage ;)

I am now using different pulleys - 40 t on the pump to 30 t on the crank, which relates to 6000 at the pump to 8000rpm on the crank.

Incidentally, the whole lot does fit comfortably under the standard Mini bonnet.
