Can someone explain to me the ins and outs of fitting a new later type steering rack to a Mk 1 ?
Do the splines fit the Mk 1 Column ?
And can i use the Mk 1 Steering arms ?

It is a straight swap, column etc match. But you do need to change the steering arms to match the rack.

Re: Steering Rack fitment on Mark 1
Exactly.
A MK1 Rack uses MK1 steering arms.
A MK2 on rack uses MK2 on Steering arms.
They can be easily swapped over by removing the two bolts in the top of the hub, swapping the arms & replacing the bolts remembering to replace the lock washers at the same time.
