Original Minifins

Post by AustinSuperSeven »

Hello all.
I've just got hold of some original Minifins and would like to know if it's possible to put a new liner in them?
Many thanks

anything is possible, but i suspect that getting a cast iron ring made and machined to such a small size, then fitted to a set of 40 year old alloy brake drums will be, shall we say, a little expensive.

you can get this done for the larger prewar cars - it aint cheap for them!
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

How much life is left on them?
I had mine turned very slightly to clean up the iron liner.

The cast iron linning in a Minifin is not an insert, it is actually cast in place. To "recondition" them by replacing the iron lining entirely is impossible, but as has been said above a skim as thin as possible to clean the liner up would be worth a try. This was actually a mod in the day to improve braking by increasing the area all be it very slightly.

I can't see taking a few thou. off be of any benefit what-so-ever. " very slightly " would be an over statement.

Well mr Trickey reckoned it was worth a bit of extra braking effort in "Building & Racing an 850 Mini".
