Be carefull if you made your own pipes - quite a lot of these DIY pipe flaring kits dont produce the proper flares even if they look it
the flares are a precision part and theres only sykes pick and another make that supply proper flaring kits ( I used to sell Sykes Pic tools and did all the training on these things)

That pipe looks to be steel ???????, that's probably why its leaking , get a new one made from proper material that's softer and will seat better

The other thing I've seen is some of the newer MC's are drilled too deep and so the hex of the tube nut contacts the top of the MC before it applies pressure to the flare of the tube, however it appears you are using your original MC. I've also seen a few tube nuts that are too short and end up with the same problem.

Or in other words when people fit the wrong one.Spider wrote:The other thing I've seen is some of the newer MC's are drilled too deep and so the hex of the tube nut contacts the top of the MC before it applies pressure to the flare of the tube, however it appears you are using your original MC. Actually Smiffy, no. I've found a few MCs (and flexible hoses) that have been drilled too deep and as for the Tube Nuts, as far as I'm aware, all UNF Tube Nuts are (supposed to be) made to the same Standard, I have seen quite a few in recent years, supplied under the correct P/N (P2845) but too short.Smiffy wrote: Or in other words when people fit the wrong one.

Had on several occasions, calls from irate mini owners. Telling me there professionally made brake pipes don't fit, when I've actually seen the part it's been too short. Whether or not there chinese shite, i don't know. But it should be obvious that a fitting that bottoms out won't work. Usually end up making them a new pipes to fix the problem.Spider wrote:Actually Smiffy, no. Re: converting drum brake to disc brake at front wheel
Check the non return valve first. A few years ago an acquaintance (who runs a prefessional brake shop) did stainless sleeves for my S mater cylinder. He was very proud to throw in a brand (NOS) kit still in its Lockheed box. First time I pressed the pedal the brakes locked on.. and continued to do so.
After much pfaffing about we realised that valve in the brand new kit was missing the required hole....
Luckily I still had the old bits so was able to mix'n'match a kit that has worked fine for years...
Cheers, Ian

Re: converting drum brake to disc brake at front wheel
hi sir,
thank you for all comments.
by the way, i have received the confirmation from mini spare that all pipes from them are double flare head. thus, can you please confirm me that it will be fit to the master cylinder? this is because i remember that the original pipe is bobble flare.
warm regards

an 'op2' flare will fit fine into masters and what not that have a male fitting - a lot of cars use them like this.

Re: converting drum brake to disc brake at front wheel
Its not a bad idea to bleed the master cylinder first before connecting the pipes.

Re: converting drum brake to disc brake at front wheel
I was trying to see if I had a pic of an MC that had been over-drilled, but I don't seem to have one, however, here's a new hose, with the original type tube nut;-
