Rubber strap round electronic fuel pump

Post by rolesyboy »

Tried the Minispares variety and they fall to bits. Does anybody have any suggestions where I can get the rubber/foam strap that goes between the fuel pump bracket and the fuel pump (wraps around it). Cheers. Mark

Why do you not buy minispares rubber/foam strap?

I have found that a BMC air cleaner to carb body rubber seal to be a perfect fit for both the petrol pump and clamp. It has a stepped lip on one side so the pump cannot slide out of place.

I think it is off an A40 or similar. Being original BMC rubber it will not disintegrate within 3 months like Chinese rubber seems to do !

I'll see if I can find my spare one and up a photo of it.

Thanks Andrew. Sounds like a plan.
Charlynsane- thanks for your reply but as per my text the Minispares variety I bought had a very short life span.

I use high density foam that is sold as draught excluder by the likes of B&Q.

Particularly good as it's self adhesive on one side too.

I have used rubber self-amalgamating tape with good success, it will last a very long time, but being rubber, it won't like oil or sunlight, however - thankfully - the inside of the rear subframe doesn't see much of either.

Mark,

Found a couple of new seals in the garage, one in its original BMC box !

Slipped one over a pump so you can see that it is a nice snug fit. The clamp also fits very well around it.

Found a pretty good original piece of foam as well, split in half but well useable if you want originality ;)

I find a nice piece of inner tube works fine....

Unless, I suppose, one runs over the local originality police....

Cheers, Ian
