Both of those look like little crackers
I'm not sure that the "Clipper Blue" saloon has been resprayed in the right colour though?

Re: At The Auctions
The Clipper Blue car is definitly all original including the paint.
I know this car very well belonging to a good friend of mine. A very genuine car with a genuine reason for selling.
He also has the Willow Green van in the auction which I restored 17 years ago. It has had very little use since then and in excellent order.

Re: At The Auctions
I saw a one owner silver T reg (?) mini genuine barn find go through Matthewsons on B&C last week. Rough with the usual rust bits but all there. Went for a very low £1400. A good buy for someone

Re: At The Auctions
That could have been many years ago, lots of repeats of that show.

Re: At The Auctions
I saw that too. It was a horrible, rusty and dusty old non-running Mayfair straight out of a shed and needing a complete restoration. Is that worth doing??
I thought it did well to make £1400.00 - and yes, that episode probably was a few years old

Re: At The Auctions
Hmmm......., the new owner of the v low mileage silver Mayfair, doing the subsequent restoration certainly thought it was very good value at £1,400. Not sure that it was an old/repeat showing. Anyone confirm it? It was shown less than a month ago

RIGHT THEN GUYS, HERE WE GO, LOOK
Another ten footer from Mathewsons. It's had plenty of welding but it'd be okay for the right money - i.e £5000 or so. It looks fairly original apart from the bootlid.

Not as mad as the tidy 1972 VW Beetle that did nearly 15k

Big price expectation...Not sure about the alternator, Mini Sport top hose and modern HT leads on a concourse stand car.

FAR too many incorrect details/reproduction parts on that to attract any purist interest. Way over-restored. And "just" a Coopercockney21 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 8:14 am Big price expectation...Not sure about the alternator, Mini Sport top hose and modern HT leads on a concourse stand car.

Re: At The Auctions
The statement "over-restored" does not apply to the handbrake lever and the twin carb fuel supply pipe. They probably forgot those in a drawer until they had to "quickly get it ready for auction" or so...Old English White wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 8:37 amFAR too many incorrect details/reproduction parts on that to attract any purist interest. Re: At The Auctions
It looks a nice example. A day spent farting about will correct the minor details.
30k is probably all its money.

Re: At The Auctions
It'll take more than a day or so to make a real concours car out of it. Yes - it looks very smart but Newton interior, wrong seats, wheels, steering wheel, bootlid, front panel, bumpers, both doors - and what about a completely wrong suspension system
? And that's just a couple of minutes looking.
I'm not an originality buff particularly but if you suggest that your car is a top concours example then......

Re: At The Auctions
Granted it has lots of new parts, not all "original" looking, but seems to be well restored and could make a nice car to drive around.....go to events in etc..
Not for me, but lots of enthusiasts like the new look rather than the well used and smelly look...

Re: At The Auctions
Also appears to have a non-rotodip rear bulkhead in it. Surely that's wrong for a Mk1? Thought that didn't show up until the Mk3?Old English White wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 4:46 pm It'll take more than a day or so to make a real concours car out of it. Re: At The Auctions
Sure there are changes and some concessions to be made if you are a concours 'nut' but things like the seats and steering wheel are a matter of choice.
(& arguably a Newton recliner is better than an original right angled back breaker) It looks like a nice well restored car to me.
If somebody is happy to buy it at whatever price they decide to pay they might actually get to enjoy largely hassle free ownership without getting covered in crap and filler dust and looking at it in a part built state over the next 5-10 years.
There are plenty of badly restored cars out there with shite panel work, badly fitting doors and fits where it touches floor pans that will likely start rusting out inside 2 winters and they often change hands at relatively strong money. Very original cars typically come with their own headaches and hassles simply because they are 60 years old which inevitably leads to breakdowns and failures of parts.
It looks to me like it would be car somebody could enjoy and tinker with at their leisure.
