mechanical fuel injection
I have always wanted to run a mechanical fuel injection system in my class of motor racing . TJ and lucas systems are impossible to find so when l saw a complete , running engine fitted with a slide throttle system and a kugelfischer injector pump l negotiated with the owner and bought just the injection system and 8 port head from him . However the pump is run from the front of the crankshaft with a toothed belt gear only and NO vibration damper . Have never run without a vibration damper before though have owned several engines that have run without them , one fitted with a 76mm gordon Allen crank which had a crack through a big end and the other a 1275 S block with S crank still in good condition . Personally l dont like running without a damper . but to be able fit one l would have to make a spacer to go between the damper and the pulley ..........what are your thoughts ??

Re: mechanical fuel injection
Congrats! I recently bought an almost complete TJ for very little money (- the HP fuel pump and the throttle bodies, though).
Still saving money to buy the ancillaries like Weslake head, engine and car around it
Cannot really help re the crank damper - personally I would rather have one fitted. Says my gut feeling!
The belt drive looks pretty oversized for the application, so you could possibly use a narrower belt drive on a separate pulley next to the crank damper. .

Yes I am a nerd: I am researching the Austrian Mini-racing scene of the 60s and 70s

Re: mechanical fuel injection
You can run a two piece crank damper with a toothed drive. Others do them as well. I just picked the MS one for the pic

Yes , l would much rather run with a damper myself but obviously the engine that the injection setup came from had no problems .MiNiKiN wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:15 am Congrats! I recently bought an almost complete TJ for very little money (- the HP fuel pump and the throttle bodies, though).

Re: mechanical fuel injection
Yes , l quite agree with you , it obviously ran okay and without trouble .................l just feel a little uneasy not having a damper.........
