Good Morning Folks,
Hope all are well. I am looking for some help/advice as per. My mini project has been on/off for a few years now due to health problems. I'm guilty of making posts, then something happens and it is months/years before I reply or read the post. I apologise for this as I fully understand this can be annoying when someone has taken the time to reply. I will try to do better in future.
I am trying to fit the MK1 Austin Cooper S front bright work to a 90s Rover mini.
I am having issues trying to fit it. I have 60 plus mini books. In the pictures even in the same book. The area that can be seen of the front panel varies from picture to picture. some you clearly see the front panel above the outside of the surround and down the outer side.
When I try to fit the surround it doesn't sit flat with the front panel. Do you need to bend the surround so that it sits flush? I am not sure if it requires spacers or if it is due to being a modern repop.
I was hoping that someone would be kind enough to advise. I was hoping that someone would be kind enough to give me measurements from the indicators to the surround and the whiskers in the x and Y axis.
I can post a diagram of the required measurements if that would help.
Any and all help appreciated. I'm gonna add reminders to my calendar so that I don't have anxiety and mood problems and forget to check back.
Thanks
R

Re: Mk 1 Austin Cooper Grill, Surround and whiskers
The later front panels are indeed a different shape, and the indicator plinths are bigger so it can be problematic trying to fit an original moustache, though the grill itself is fine.
Mini Spares make a slightly different shaped moustache and 'whisker' ends to overcome this though.

Please post the measurements pics so we can all chip in though

Re: Mk 1 Austin Cooper Grill, Surround and whiskers
On the Minispares info it adds the following
This item is in deep chrome on brass as per the original 1960s type to help prevent rusting. It has now been modified to fit with our grilles to all genuine front panels that are available plus the originals.
Cheap overseas copies on steel are prone to rust and nearly 5/8" too high on left hand side creating poor fitment or impossible correct fitment.
Maybe part of the problem?

Re: Mk 1 Austin Cooper Grill, Surround and whiskers
Morning,
Thanks very much for taking the time to post replies and include link. I will purchase one of these and give it a go. The one I have is rubbish. Fitted the ends where you rivet the clips for the 2 end finishers, is about 30mm from the front panel.
Would anyone be able to give me measurements from the indicator to the surround in the x & Y axis. I have marked 9n attached pic.
Thanks

Also the spacing around the grill from the 3dge of the bonnet slam panel please

There seems to be a different gap on different spacing. Thanks

Re: Mk 1 Austin Cooper Grill, Surround and whiskers
The dome the indicator sits on is smaller in diameter on earlier cars, the replacement front panels have the later, bigger dia dome. This may be the reason for the different spacing. Just compare the blue car (replacement panel) to the red one (small dome).
Yes I am a nerd: I am researching the Austrian Mini-racing scene of the 60s and 70s

Incidentally I have original 64 and 66 cars here and the moustache ends are too short compared to the updated Mini Spares ones, so be sure to get the set.

Just in case it is helpful, I took a close up pic of our standard car for you.
