Headlinings

Post by Pandora »

A very generous forum member sorted me out with a suitable rear headlining from a countryman, which I will fit in the van, but it has thrown up a bit of a curiosity when I held it in place today.

The van comes with a front headlining, which I assumed to be the same as a saloon front part, and the rear being from a traveller, I assumed would just join up and continue through to the back, but it doesn't - there is a gap of about 5 inches between them. The front one finishes neatly below the pressed panel that runs across the roof of the van about the back of the doors, and with the interior light at it's back edge.

It will actually work out fairly well, as the area between then quite neatly exposes the roof vent (something travellers don't have) so I can make a bridge piece that includes access. I also have to make a support lip as the van of course lacks the inner structure around the windows of the traveller, onto which the headlining sits. Luckily the van is ply lined, so I can make a suitable timber rail easily enough. It will be a nice wee project to bring it all together :-)

So the question is: are Van front headliners shorter than saloon ones, or are traveller fronts longer than saloons?

They are different sizes yes and have different mounting methods, the van one has extra brackets by the interior light to fix under the cross rail

There is a thread here for some light comparison (and to credit the posters on the thread of course)
