Any advice in getting alternator ( 2 ) wires fitted correct way round both wires female spades one bigger than other. The 2 wires were originally fitted to a 45amp 18 ACR alternator. New alternator is a 40amp small dsn with 2 wires needing to be connected to original female spades. DSN has 2 wires 1 plain red that goes to dashboard ignition lamp. Other wire is red with white tracer goes to ignition switched positive feed. Which female slade wire goes were? Would it be large spade ignition lamp and smaller spade to ignition switch feed?
Any thoughts please

Re: Alternator wires 71 gt
The colours you mention don't match the standard Lucas wiring colours.
On the ACR, the thicker wire (sometimes two) would go to the starting solenoid / battery + / ignition switch inlet, usually at the solenoid.
The thinner wire goes the "ign warning" lamp in the instrument cluster.

Re: Alternator wires 71 gt
The ACR would of used the small terminal to the warning lamp and the big terminal should go to battery + (live)
