It's a Salford registration, second and third letters are RJ respectively. It would be odd for a Surrey registered vehicle to be used by the Manchester Police.

Would be fantastic to see your photo of 706F Fricsman. I owned it in 76/77 - see my earlier post. I too believe it went to Belgium.

After a quick search on the interwebs it looks like it was part of a council estate know as the Hulme Crescents in Manchester, built around 1971. As was proven many times, these estates soon lost their shine, this one being labelled the worst in England. Demolished started in 1991.

The photos were taken early 1968 in Birchfields Park, Fallowfield for the Manchester Evening News. As my father noted Manchester City Police cars always had good registration numbers because the Police were responsible for the VRO! I'll post another photo in the same series.

50 years later, the road is wider and the bridge has gone. Only recognisable bit are the buildings on the right.

I recently have come across a NOS speedo which Smiths list as being specifically for the Police Cooper (SN4421/30 with 1440 tmp).
It's a MK2/3 type speedo, yet it only has the MPH scale on the face. Can anybody confirm that this would also be the case in their actual cars?

Those travellers are just up the road from me. Originally designed for Austin himself and later H A Saunders and finally Mann Egerton I think. Now saved by the uni and part of their art department.

They didnt have to go far as the other buildings in the background are part of the police station.

That is a lovely old dealership building. Glad to see that it still survives today.
