Re: Police Minis
Amazing to see OKD 706F, thanks to spoon.450. I owned this car 1976/77. Deffo a Liverpool Police motor. Mine had the calibrated speedo. I did a lot of restoration but kept it original. It looks a bit hacked in the photo of Gary Shaw's. I have some images but I can't figure out how to upload

Re: Police Minis
Would sure be interested to know what happened to it after your 1987 pic. I see it has an entry in DVLA....tax due 1995. I thought I'd read somewhere that it was exported to Belgium.spoon.450 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 10:49 pmWelcome Jonny.....it would be great to see your pics if you can upload I'll try to contact Gary ....JonnyC wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 6:20 pm Amazing to see OKD 706F, thanks to spoon.450. Re: Police Minis
Great pics Jonny.......I'll try and track Gary down.....he lived in Alderly Edge then. I know he had it built into a brand new shell ( unfortunately )......he was a few years older than myself and mates and seemed to have loads o money. I remember it having a Jack Knight SC box.......we nick named him Jack Knight as he kept going on about it The photo I posted was on our way to Beulieu as part of the Derbyshire region convoy of the MCR .....great times

Re: Police Minis
To be fair to Gary the shell was past its sell by date when I had it in 76/77. I’d done a fair amount of panel replacement and my welding skills weren’t the best. I reckoned if I could get a good weld every 100mm it would be as good as the factory spot welds. Also, the box was a bit (lot?) worn when I had it so not surprised Gary put in a new one although I wouldn’t have been brave enough to put a Jack Knight in. So it’s hats off to Gary for giving the old girl a new lease of life. If you do manage to contact Gary my great regards to him. Cheers

Re: Police Minis
Yes the pub was the Eagle
After a quick search on the interwebs it looks like it was part of a council estate know as the Hulme Crescents in Manchester, built around 1971. As was proven many times, these estates soon lost their shine, this one being labelled the worst in England. Demolished started in 1991.

Re: Police Minis
I have a photograph of 706F somewhere where it is in a later shell before it went to Belgium I believe. Photo was mid ‘90s when I bought my OKD restoration project.

Re: Police Minis
Blimey I played a gig in that pub.
All gone now. ‘The Factory’ club was nearby aswell.
Going back to OKD 706F I remember having a blast in that car when Gary owned it, super quick Longman engine in it with split Webers, back in the good old days when I ran the Cheshire region of the MCR.

Re: Police Minis
Fricsman, do you mean that you have a photo of the blue and white mini HJA 300N in the photo? It LOOKS like the cop is using the phone from the Marina which is also a cop car judging from the aerial on the rear right hand wing. The police in Oxford and surrounding area had a load of 1300 Marinas. According to the local papers, they were a job-lot of cars from a cancelled order from Uganda. Cross-ply tyres, no heaters, in fact he most basic car available - and cheap.
The Blue mini looks like it has one of those POLICE - STOP pull-up signs fitted to the rear shelf.

Re: Police Minis
The Marina in that photo has a Surrey registration and was part of a batch of BL cars from Minis to Wolseley Sixes and early Sherpas. It's a Bracken 1.3 Deluxe, likely with navy vinyl trim.
It says something about modern cars than a Marina now looks like quite a handsome and clean design.
