factory linered S block
So I have a factory linered S block at std. never used. It's an original gold seal from 1973. Should I be concerned the way its linered as it's bored all the way through with no step at the bottom. Do these liners ever come loose and destroy an engine? thanks

Many blocks were linered from new so I wouldn't be too concerned.

does this do any damage other than loosing compression? would a sleeve ever move so far as to hit the crank? thanks

i would imagine that apart from piston and rod destruction, possible crank damage, a cracked block would also be a possibility!

Which is exactly what happened to a friends 1098 clubman which had a linered block from new. Although the car was out of warranty, they did make a payment towards the repair on the basis that the car was not correct, but was a bodge from the factory. A daft question, maybe, but why are some linered and some not?
is it to address inconsistencies in the castings, that some break through when machined?

Re: factory linered S block
Factory linered blocks are done to rectify bad castings or to reclaim blocks that have been bored too big .
Also factory reconditioned / goldseal sometimes had liners.
I,ve seen a few blocks with moved liners , I allways step them in with about 0.002" - 0.003" press fit .
If your block has liners now you will have to fit bigger ones
