Vintage Radio

Post by Robbie224 »

Hello. Fitting a vintage very basic 70s radio which has Bluetooth
Is there any terminal in the fuse box I can get a live feed from without disturbing ignition switch. Radio doesn't need a permanent live feed
Thanks

Pick a green or white wire. Assuming you’re not positive earth.

However, if your car’s like mine (a few POs :) then relying on them to have always done the right thing and used the correct wire can be dangerous...

A simple bulb tester will allow you find a live terminal (ignition switched or not as desired).

And a simple radio doesn’t consume much power so its easier to find a suitable live source under the dash than to run a new wire all the way to the fuse block. An in-line fuse is easily added if desired...

Cheers, Ian

Thanks guys appreciate the replies and advice. It's a fresh rebuild ( not done by myself ) so assuming all wiring OK. Thinking I'd wire it through a basic on/off switch as permanent live feed would keep tune dial illuminated when mini running without wish to use radio.

Modern radios usually have a permanent live feed and a trigger from the switched live. So it can both come on/off with the key and be turned on separately

If you have a two fuse fuse box then connect to terminal 3 for a switched feed and place an in-line fuse between this connection and the radio. If you want a permanent feed then connect to terminal 1 with an in-line fuse.

Thanks every one. All much appreciated. It's a 71 mini GT only has one fuse box old original type with glass fuses. Found out which terminal is live feed so going to connect radio from there through a on/off switch because being radio is Bluetooth it be on constantly when ignition is on which I don't want as I won't always want radio on every journey. Switch seems best result for me.
