Rear Subframe

Post by Jamie »

building up my new rear subframe at the moment before i bolt on the shell....was wondering whether i should be putting some sort of padding between the frame and the shell? Not sure if there was some there in the first place or not?

is this worth doing?

thanks

Originally, there is some small padding. These however soak up all the water and easily help the rust bug...

They put a rubber pad in place of the felt on the later cars. It was glued to the subframe top web. ( where there is a triangular shaped pressing on the top of the web )
It is a good idea to have it because the subframe could touch and rub on the floor.

If the subframe flexes that much, you need a new subby !

I replace the original carpet underlay type pad with a new one that has been thoroughly soaked in waxoyl this seems to work fine & won't promote rust either.

A waxed felt pad is exactly what I did when I had the S frame out during my recent change back to Hydro. I did the same on the front one too.

Amazing how great minds work alike !! ;)
