Avon tyre pressure
Hello together,
Last week a fitted a set of Avon tyres. First impression is very positive. What would be the correct tyre pressure for these? Avon on Rose Petals for fast road application?
Many thanks in advance
Fabio

Re: Avon tyre pressure
Same pressure for me !I run at 28psi
Pls note Avon’s require some warming up , avoid pushing then when cold !
Cheers

Re: Avon tyre pressure
Hello,
Thanks a lot.
Same pressure front and rear? In generale 29psi sounds like a lot to me. The tire appears to be rather rigid in its structure so I was assuming a lower pressure to be adaquate.
Thanks and regards

Same front and rear.
28psi works well, both wet and dry. You won’t gain any more grip running lower pressures, just get them hotter and scrub them more.

Assuming you are talking CR6ZZ tyres.
I used these as wets for hill climbing. I used to run 16 front and 14 rear. Very good wet or dry.

How do these tyres compare to the yokohama a032’s in terms of traction from standing starts, cornering grip and wear rate?

Re: Avon tyre pressure
Possibly lose out slightly on a standing start, especially if cold, but otherwise better. Just much more expensive.

Re: Avon tyre pressure
Thanks, I have found I am wearing the outer edges of the yokos very quickly on the track due to the soft sidewalls allow the tyre to tuck under, I’m going to try more negative camber to counter this but I expect the stiffer sidewalls of the avons would be a better solution, it’s just a shame they are more than twice the price!

Re: Avon tyre pressure
Yes more expensive but last longer.
My mate did the manx rally and went to Killarney on the same tyres.
Two front yokos last about 25 miles.

i can get at least double the usage of Avon's against A032's.. this on abrasive tarmac ( Track day usage ).
Grip when hot is better but the major difference i noticed is less understeer with Avon's ( and that was with 5x10 wheels , against 6x10 with A032 )
they are a very heavy tyre though.
