Distributor connections and tacho
We've had a car arrive at the workshop as a non-runner with this electronic distributor which has two connections - a pink and an orangy brown.
Which is permanent +12v and which is the switched side of the coil ?
The car has this tacho fitted. The sensing loop is in the white wire between the ignition switch and the coil.
Is that right ? I'd have thought the tacho sense would be between the coil and distributor - or is it something to withe the electronic dissy.
The owner says it has worked like this but I'm skeptical and don't want to let the smoke out.
Its a 1275 A+.

The tacho was / is connecet correct in the was you mention it. To make it more clear, have a look on the SMITHS diagram for the tacho.

Thnaks Dr Mabo - that confirms the tacho wiring.
Can anyone confirm the electronic dissy connections ?

Re: Distributor connections and tacho
I'm afraid not because we don't have white and white / black wires.
I was hoping someone might recognise the pink and orangey brown wires.

Re: Distributor connections and tacho
But it tells you which pin is which - just trace or multimeter your wires out.
Normally in Minis pink is a resistive +ve and brown is a permanent unfused +ve so it may be that your wiring isn't original

Re: Distributor connections and tacho
OK thanks for that. The whole car is a hybrid / mixture of parts, which makes it difficult to trouble-shoot.
Unfortunately the M/S description " .. ignition module fitted to all standard electronic ignition distributors (non injection) looking at the front of module, negative is on the left. positive on right ... " is ambiguous.
What does looking at the front of the module mean I wonder ?
I might nip dowm to Potters Bar and see if I can examine one of the leads YMV10064

Re: Distributor connections and tacho
That tacho is an RVI. It is unlikely to work correctly with an electronic ignition.
But you can get it converted at spiyda to RVC.

Distributor wiring for the DAB 118 type amplifier (Which work really well)

The centre pin doesn't need to be connected, needs to be negative earth. Just a wire to either side of the coil. You want a DLB 198 coil with no ballast resistor.
