Front subframe tower top spacers

my 62 basic has studs and the spacer on the right, dry set up,

studs are so much easier, my studs to me look like turned down head studs, i would recommend changing to them

they must of just changed it day by day, as everyone seems to have something different

Hi all, sorry to dig this back up again, But i have a wet shell and i am about to put a dry subframe into it. From what i have just read i need some spacers!

Can anyone tell me how thick they are as i could just make some if need be.

Took some measurements earlier Simon and here are the results.




The spacer on the left measures 5.7 mm thick and the spacer on the right measures 6.3 mm.
The L / hand spacer came off a 71 shell and I can't for the life of me remember what car the thicker spacers came off.

do you have any of the 3/8 studs that you could tell me how long they are.

Couldn't find any 3/8 studs, but the 3/8 bolts are 111 mm long overall and the 5/16 studs are the same length.

Dug some useful info out regarding studs or bolts. It seems that whatever was in the parts bin at the time, was used, the exception being wet coopers and S which nearly always used bolts.

That's about as clear as mud I reckon.

On a different note, I think I've got a spinning nut in the top of my subframe. Are these welded from the factory?

Checked my dry subby against a wet subby and i think the answer is no.

There seems to be a steel plate under the top of the subframe which is welded (spotted) to the frame, inside.
The plate has been drilled and tapped to take the stud / bolt.

Here's a pic of the remnants that "fell" out of my scrap wet subby which should give you some idea of what i'm trying to explain.



The dry subby has the same sort of plate and fixing method.

How do you spacer-man fit the hydro hose through ?
I don't think that any of the 2 spacer's will let the hose go through?

As far as I can see and the general consensus is, wet Minis do not have the spacers fitted.
The subframe towers are taller to equal out the height differential on wet subframes.

the dry spacers have been remade and are not expensive to buy new (about a fiver each)
