Help with new floor/inner wing

Post by Super60 »

Hi all,
Apologies, 3 dumb questions I need help with please. If I don’t ask I’ll never learn.

1: what’s the standard procedure where my new half floor (with attached sill) meets my new inner wing? (Circled red in pics) do I plug weld? Front and side? I’m aware the new inner a panel to go on also has a tab, so they’ll be 3 tabs in same location?

2: I’ve 3 or 4 pin holes after grinding down welds on new inner wing, is it just a case of going back over with the welder?

3: is it possible to replace full heelboard without the shell on a rotisserie?

Many thanks.

I too am interested in any detailed pictures of this area and how it goes together. It is not really clear how these parts are properly attached...

Not sure if this helps, but this is my car in this area, inner a panel covers the joint though, I believe this to be correct.

With the inner a panel on seam welded on the edge down the left there. The then triple (sill/inner wing/inner a) get spot welded in three or four places at the bottom overhang.

Reference to your little holes, depends on how thick your material is, either weld/grind, lead load or filler if they are tiny

Pin holes......, I'm with Hipwell. Just lead load them. The lead forms part of the metal and is there for good!

So the inner hinge panel is welded along the vertical seam with the inner wing? I am having a great deal of trouble finding any spot welds on the flat surface between the inner hinge panel and the inner wing...

FYI one of my cars did not have any spot welds there so not unusual, just unnaceptable

Gary no, just down the sill line, inner a is spot welded on in a zig zig pattern. Only way to replicate in fitting it is to plug weld the panel on.

Appreciate the pictures. I just can't see any of those zig-zag spot welds on the L/H side I am trying to remove.
