Anybody recognize this early straight cut roller Idler gear
Have had this straight cut roller idler gear (came 1st motion input gear and 3 sync straight cut gears)......
Because of it's age, I suspect it is a Jack Knight setup......Think he was the earliest guy doing this????
Was used for roundy round Mini Stock racing in Southern Ontario, late sixties....
Need to know if I can find a 998 straight cut primary gear to match.....
Also, is the adapter just pressed into the Idler bearing hole, and, can I just press it out to put the whole gubbins in a different box??? Don't want to waste a good S box on a daily driver frankenbuild......

To take out the adapter i would warm up the case slowly with a torch or something and then you can easily take it out.
I promise i won't buy another MkI...

Unsure of the make, but I used one exactly the same recently in an A plus box for my Rover, which required making a larger diameter adapter bush to suit the bearing diameter of the A plus box. It's a really nice, strong arrangement and uses Timken taper bearings. My ( 1275 ) primary gear was damaged, but the Minispares replacement matched perfectly. Worth noting that they are VERY noisy !

Quick check, How many teeth on idle? It looks like my old jack knight set. They used to use a 31 tooth idler vs the 30 that was the standard.

OK, 31 teeth it is, so, looks like JK, as I supposed........and, they are Timkin looks like LL 52549...
I have the matching first motion Input gear, but, no primary.....
Do you know if any of the modern 998 primary gears will work????

This old minimania catalog suggests the STR224 might work... if you believe their statement that JK used the same ST tooth profile.

This gear was made well before KAD existed, at least 20 years, so, I doubt very much that KAD made this...........
