On my 1962 850 it has the aluminium pillars in the rocker gear,
After I put the car back on the road the rocker gear creaked in operation And I fitted a later set to prove that was the cause, now I would like to refit the originals, anyone know what is likely to cause the noise before I strip them down, car works perfect with a different set so I know it’s the rockers,
Thanks

Re: Creaking rockers
It’s probably steel rubbing against abrasive aluminium oxide. Those alloy pillars can crush and cause the rockershaft to be distorted. That won’t help any.

Re: Creaking rockers
Definitely, alloy pillars are just trouble waiting to happen. It was probably a factory cost saving exercise but quickly got ditched and never appeared on the Coopers which got forged steel pillars. The factory went to using sintered steel pillars on more mundane vehicles.
