I've just dismantled 6 diffs. One of them had bronze washers instead of fibre. Has anyone come across this before? If so do you know if it is better or why?
Cheers

The early cars up to mid / late 60's has brass thrusts.
The fibre ones are utter rubbish, every diff I've pulled down has at least one gone.

Yes, they are probably brass. They only have a little wear. Would you use then instead of new fibre ones.?

I haven't fitted a Fibre type for over 20 years now. They are junk.
The Brass ones are a little thicker and so you need to give the 'button' on the tooth side of the output shafts a lick with a grinder.

If they aren't too worn. You'll know when you assemble them.btetley wrote:Yes, they are probably brass. They only have a little wear. Would you use then instead of new fibre ones.?

I'm going to use a cross diff which I believe has a stainless steel housing compared to the original cast housing. The brass washer should be no problem against the stainless face vs cast iron should it?

Re: Differential fibre washer
It’s not stainless. It’s steel. I think those come with fibre washers. Use them.
