another 'hole' question - apologies for memory loss!!

I don't have access to my other cars the check at the moment but think I have seam sealed just about every unnecessary small hole that I overlooked before paint now.

Today I was looking at this one though, was it a breather from the fuel pump into the cabin, or am I imagining things??

Yes and yes. There are reproductions available here in Australia. I think Marks website has a service bulletin detailing the fitting of them.

Yes. However, it is on the "dry" side of the electric SU pump's diaphragm. When the pump is running air has to move in and out of the dry side just like fuel on the wet side. I assume BMC thought it better to use cabin air than risk the pump sucking up water when driving through puddles. Some other BMC cars (like the MGB) also had a vent connection for the Bakelite cap protecting the pump points.

As far as finding an original fitting, why carry originality to that level? You can only see the vent fitting if you go looking for it. If you are not a purist, visit a local pet/aquarium store and look through their aeration fittings for something you can improvise with. If that doesn't work, consider just putting a grommet in the hole. Run a short length of rigid tube through the grommet and into the pump's plastic tube.

Thanks - that is how I recall it, but looking at my car again that hole looks a lot less like a factory one, more like a roughly drilled one!! Do we know when this came in?? I may be thinking about our SDL 970 which was originally a hydro car???
