Mk1 electrics...

Post by sandman »

I am in the process of rewiring me racecar with a new electronic-type master-switch, and hope someone can help me with a few questions;

My racer uses an original wiring loom... (type: Cooper S repro)

- Are the lights on a Mk1 Mini unfused?
From the wiring diagram in the old Haynes book it looks so... ? Is this what the in-line fuse (under the scuttlepanel) was later added to cure/help with?

- How much current (amp or watt) should be allocated for the ignition system (coil and points)

- Am I right in understanding the the wiper motor consumes about 14 watts?

Some swift replies would be very nice! :)
Cheers,

Yes the lights are unfused, unless you count the big long ones that they are wired in with. As for the ignition and wiper motor, I think you'd need to measure it, to be certain. The current consumption of the wiper motor, for example, will vary quite a lot with load, in dry conditions it will be much higher than when the windscreen is wet.

If you just need to know what size fuses to fit, I just keep changing them for the next size up until they stop blowing. :D
