Under Bonnet Insulation

Post by wanganui 1071 »

Can anyone post a photo of the original under bonnet insulation for a 1963 mk 1 cooper S. Im assuming it is glued as one piece to the underside of the bonnet
Any help appreciated.

Any chance of some measurements of the insulation in the photo?

The very first of that type don't have the depression for the Cooper air filter box - now they are super mega rare.

BMC engineering drawing for this part says its phenolic resin bonded fiberglass coated with neoprene paint.

Nominal thickness is 0.75" with thinner sections above the air box and under bonnet strengthening ribs.

A Mini enthusiast here in Australia reproduced a small quantity using similar but not the same material. I don't know if any more are in the pipeline.

Presume they line up with radiator cap and front corner of radiator itself.

Looking good, where did you get the buckle clip that is holding the heater hose to heater air intake trunk? I cannot find any that long. Cheers.
