Yup, Looks like a late-ish (approx early 1970's) Downton head to me too.
Not easy to say much more without a look at the chambers.
Probably road going though as it has the "standard" combustion chamber size of 16.4cc
A very nice find.

Most probably either a No51 conversion, similar to this one;
Or a No39 (Stage II) for twin H4 1 1/2" SU's at 99/5/6

Certainly looks like a road going one to me, and it's in very, very good condition too.

Took it to work today and cleaned it and put a lick of paint, all in the lunch time of course
It cleaned up well, so I will chuck it on the Morris 1300 later today as the head is already off because of broken head gasket.
What carbs should I use?? I have the choice of twin hs2 on Speedwell manifoil or single hs4

Oh the two, a single HS4 is probably the best bet, but it could easily use twin 1 1/2" carbs.
