Couple questions... overflow tank, interior panels, and...

Post by formulaphoto »

Hi -

Finally getting around to the finishing details on my Mini. I have a few questions that I hope the knowledgebase here can help with!

1. After a particularly hot and slow rally event, we installed a makeshift overflow bottle for the radiator on the side of the road, and I've driven with it for the past two years (hey, if it works don't touch it!). But, it's a bit ungainly and occupies the spot where my washer bottle should be. I'd like to finally put a proper overflow system in. I'd be interested in seeing how other people have located and setup their overflows.

2. For the rear seat 'door' panels, should it sit in the small groove in the bottom of the window channel or fully behind the entire lip?

And similarly, should it fit inside or behind the small tab where the cigarette tray is?

3. I tried simply press-fitting the draft excluders on my side windows, but they aren't staying in position when I slide the windows back and forth...so, what is the suggested method of securing these to the window?

Thank you for the help!

Cheers,
Warwick

I fitted my overflow tank (from a Morris 1100 or Mini Moke) to the firewall next to the wiper motor. The radiator has a blank cap, and the overflow tank has the pressure cap.

Rear panels sit inside the 'groove' and in front of the 'tab' , run a small line of clear silicone along the inside of your draught excluders to secure them if they keep falling off.

Again, on a Clubbie, only in front of the alternator, it's rather out of the way here

on the roundies, we used to fit them up in the wheel arch. Yes, it is a pain to get to but once the system has been filled and had a few run / warm up / stop / cool off cycles, it will have bleed itself and so you rarely ever need to get to the overflow tank itself.
