Re: Points
For years (decades actually) I ran a Piranha system. Eventually it failed (not sure it was the fault on of the unit - does anyone have a wiring diagram???) and I refitted the points I removed to fit the Piranha. They have worked fine for the last few years but must be getting tired by now
What are the current views on electronic systems ??- I have a fondness for IR triggers....
Cheers, Ian

Re: Points
I use the Lumenition Magnetronic system because it sits entirely within the distributor. I have been very pleased with this.
I have also used in the past the Lumenition Optronic systems and was very pleased with them. They need an external amplifier box.
You can get details here :

Re: Points
I've had electronic ignition fail leaving me stranded. I've seen them fail on the circuit too. You can always carry a spare set of points that will get you home. Swifty's condenser is the best in the world.

Re: Points
I use variations on the under the cap type electronic ignition & also carry a spare set just in case of disaster.

...Wise words I reckon.. always keep a spare set..always keep em clean... the root cause of old mini starting problems !!!....foxy52dhenry wrote:I've had electronic ignition fail leaving me stranded. Re: Points
I run a CSI distributor with the Swiftune maps, and have a spare (complete points system built up in a dizzy) in the box that we take with us to events (just in case), the CSI has done a lot of hard work at high RPM and did not let me down last season, at least with this set up it all looks original (bar 1 extra wire), and you get the bonus of replacing a distributor that might have some wear in it at the same time

Re: Points
Thanks Guys, I bought an Aldon Yellow at the same time as the Piranha setup. It still seems to work fine - even the 24 year old points still work (although they obviously haven't done 24 years work).
I suspect the Piranha is also still "Ok" and that it was a bad earth that caused the original failure. At the time i just undid it and tossed it in a box.... Does anyone have a wiring diagram??
Cheers, Ian
