Austin seven trim

Hoping someone may be able to help out on this . I have a Austin seven mini built August 1961 . Engine no . 8AM-U-H/:::::: chassis no . A-A2S7/:::::: colour smoke grey . I've just received a heritage cert and it says its a de- luxe . Trim. Dark grey & dove grey . My question is have they got the trim correct because I would have thought it would be Spanish blue with grey fleck . The car in question is missing its trim and clocks . Would it have a single clock or the three clocks in the binnacle . Would appreciate any opinions before I moan to heritage . Ken

If your chassis number includes a further 'S' i.e. A-A2S7/S then your car is a Super, which would have had Dark grey and Dove grey Cooper-style trim and a 3-instrument dash. If it hasn't then it is a deluxe with a single speedo and you are probably right about the trim colour. Heritage certificates aren't always correct as the details are lifted direct from the ledger, if a recording error was made in the first place then it automatically gets transferred to the certificate.

Thanks Garry . I've pretty much answered my own question on the dash . There is extra wires and bulbs for a three dail dash as well as a oil pressure pipe . There isn't the extra (S) in the chassis number so it won't be a super . A couple of members have mailed me to say that a standard model has the single round binnacle and the de luxe has the oval three clock binnacle . Looking at newtons website for there trim it states dark grey and dove grey for a cooper 62 to 67 . Any other thoughts on this would be appreciated as I don't want to fit the wrong trim no matter what the heritage cert says . Ken

Hi Ken,
For a 1961 car such as yours, it would certainly have had just the single instrument which was fitted to both the basic or deluxe. The three dial dash was fitted only to the Super and Cooper models, introduced in September 1961, but manufacturing began in June/July. After the deletion of the Super in October '62 the 3-dial dash continued with the Cooper and newly introduced Super deluxe. To sum up, if your car was registered September or afterwards, has a 3-dial dash, has a key start and boot-board brackets, it is a Super, therefore the trim on the Heritage certificate is correct. A deluxe certainly would not have had a 3-dial dash and it would have had a floor start. If you want to PM me your mobile number I am happy to talk to you at length.

Bit more info ; was built August 61 . Despatched 19th sept 61 . Registered 2nd October 61 . Has a key start . The rear bins have a light bulb also . 3 dial dash according to extra light bulb and oil pressure pipe and a mark of a thick sealer in a oval shape . But no boot board brackets or "S" in the chassis no . Says mini Seven in the log book and Austin mini saloon in the heritage cert . Heritage cert says dark grey and dove grey for the trim . Certainly a mix up

You may well have the change over Seven to Super, bit of a cross over, ID of one and looks of other, well it will keep Gary busy collating info for his detailed monthly report in the MCR mag.

I've been trying to track down change points in temperature gauges. Does the gauge look original to the car, and, if so, is it marked in degrees C or is it one marked, C N H on the face? The Smiths gauge number would be nice to have, too.

Does the chassis number end in a letter A or M?

Hi as previously mentioned the mini is missing the clocks and trim . The chassis number does not end with a (A) or a (M) . Ken
