What is the thread size on the temperature sending unit port, near the thermostat housing? I seem to remember 5/8" UNC, but wanted to confirm.

Thanks

5/8" by 18 TPI UNF, as already stated...

...Same thread as the block banjo bolt hole for the
oil-pipe, certainly on "non-late" (pre 90ish?) models...

If you're after a tap to just clean out the threads,
consider getting a "plug tap" as on some heads the
sender hole is not full-bore all the way through and a
taper or second tap will bottom out before cleaning up.

NB: Some capillary type temp gauges have a "gas" type
fitting which is 3/8" BSP (19 TPI). This size and 5/8" UNF
are very similar and it is sometimes possible to screw the
BSP end of the adapter into the head. You then end up with
a leaking system as the BSP nut connection does not seal
properly on the UNF thread.
