Removing door-cards...

I am about to remove a set of borcade door-cards from a pair for Mk1 doors..

- What is the best way of doing this?
- Should I remove door locks etc. first?
- Any hidden fastners etc?

All tips & tricks welcomed!

No hidden clips or anything, you just need to do it very carefully!

as the brocade is worth more than a door skin, that's not a bad method!

A method recommended by a friend, is to use a wallpaper-scraper, with the end rolled over.
-This allows you to "hook over" the top edge of the door card, and guide it out from the frame, a section at a time.

This almost prevents damage to the top edge if the trim....

Seeing the doors are completely rot free and mint - I'll leave the skins on

What part of the door will potentially damage the door-card?

The inner edge of the top part of the frame?

Any other parts/areas?

Yes basically the edge of the top part.

So you should find a way to lower the hight of the door board by bending carefully.

Another helpfull tool to do this is the factory tool for removing the hubcaps of the rims. Its a flat metall tool with a flat curved top. This is to pull the door card carfully down on one end to bring the top edge of the door board under the edge of the top frame.

I would remove the locks and the lower door pocket trim liner from the door. It is worth checking that the grey strip trim that should be fitted along the top inside flange of the door is in place as it is much smoother than the bare metal lip.

Remove the fillets and slide the liner as far forward as possible - you might need to help it past the bottom hinge bracket - then try and get a hand behind the liner about half way between above the door pocket and where the lock attaches and pull it gently out. It should bow out from the middle and you should be able to work your arm gently along easing the panel out as you go.

As the grey plastic strip was missing - I ended up using a couple of layeres of masking-tape that I folded over the top edge.... then some gentle jerking sideways - bent it out in the middle and hey presto - out it came!
