anyone had experience of changing idler gear bearing
its the one that fits in the gearbox
any special know how
also any idea of correct diameter of bearing
there are 3
my gearbox is the magic wand type

The one in the gear box is easy ( if you have the engine off ) check for a snap ring on the inside if none use a correct size socket and tap it out. It's the smaller of the three and I don't have one to measure here. The one in the clutch housing is the fun one to remove. I have a 3" x 12" 1/2 thick bar with a clearance hole for 1/2 bolt. I grind the head of the bolt so it slips inside the breaing. I place a short brass manifold nut in the bearing drop the bolt in and weld it around and around. Then place bar over threaded portion of bolt run the nut down with a little grease on threads and hit it with impact. The outer race of the first motion support bearing will fall out if you run a bead around the inside of it. Be careful not to weld the housing. Steve (CTR)

if you have the correct (or make one) puller, you can extract the bearing without taking the engine off the box
