I am trying to identify Power Unit Serial Number Prefix Coding applied to 998cc and 1275cc engines exported from UK to Australia from 1975 to the cessation of sedan and van production in 1978 and Moke production in 1981. I have a copy of Parts List AKM1145FK which provided a number of codes needed however there are five outstanding which I can not identify. These being
99H860AJH
99H883AJH
99H889AJH
99H905AJZ
12H902UH
Any assistance in this quest would be most appreciated.

Re: Power Unit Serial Number Prefix Coding
The last one is for the 1275 LS Clubmans (Clubmen?!) these were a limited edition top spec clubman with 12" wheels top level trim etc.
two colours, Hi Ho Silver and Nugget Gold.
Rumoured to be about 5 - 600 of each, around 1100 or so in total.
There was also Mini Sunshines (With Sunroof) an SS (998) and a 998 LS in limited edition too, so the other 998 numbers may relate to those?
I'll look into it more, although there are others with more knowledge.....
Craig Watson of Mini Experience (Now BMC Experience) would know!
Cheers

Re: Power Unit Serial Number Prefix Coding
In the Oz50 Mini Carnival Programme Watto Lists:
99H889AJH as Leyland Mini Van Jan 1973 to Oct 1978, originally 1098, but 998 from May 1975.
99H889AH Leyland Mini Mar 1973 to Oct 1978, originally 1098, but 998 from May 1975.
99H889AH Leyland Clubman Mini S Mar 1973 to Mar 1978, originally 1098, but 998 from May 1975.
99H889AH Leyland Mini SS Jul 1976 to Sept 1976, Always 998.
99H889AH Leyland Mini LS Feb 1977 to Oct 1978, Always 998.
99H889AH Leyland Mini Sunshine Sept 1977 to Dec 1977, Always 998.
The J I think normally refers to vans / commercials over here?
Watto also lists, Leyland Moke, Leyland Moke Pick Up and Leyland Moke Californian as 99H (There were 1275 Cali’s as well)
99H905AJZ Leyland Moke (Facelift) Nov 79 to Nov 81, always 998.
99H905AJZ Leyland Moke Pick Up (Facelift) Nov 79 to Nov 81, always 998. (Possibly some 12H?)
99H905AJZ Leyland Moke Californian (Facelift) Nov 79 to Nov 81, always 998. (Possibly some 12H?)
99H860AJH Australian Army Moke Mar 1973 to April 1980.
Not sure at present what these are...
99H883AJH
Hope I've got this right!

Re: Power Unit Serial Number Prefix Coding
Thanks for the responses however the reply is not exactly what I am after. If you take a 99H380AJH code, for example, this indicates that
99H - 998cc transverse engine
380 - Re + Bf + Xe which equates to exhaust emmission control + Lucas 16AC alternator with negative earth + close ratio remote control gearbox, all synchro
AJ - carburettor crankcase ventilation, clean air pack, evaporative loss control, alternative single carburettor
H - Distributor for regular grade fuel and positive crankcase ventilation
The data I am missing covers the decoding of the numbers "860", "883", "889", "902" and "905" together with the letters "Z" and "U" as applied to the second prefix letter
Trust someone has the answers

Re: Power Unit Serial Number Prefix Coding
Was the meaning of the codes as per John's last post ever resolved?
Whilst the Mini and other model parts books and microfiche list some of the earlier codes and meanings I could not find any of the listed examples in any factory publications.
It must exist somewhere, but where?

Re: Power Unit Serial Number Prefix Coding
I can't see you finding those numbers in a UK Listing.
The 12H902UH was also fitted to the 78-80 1275 Mokes.
There's also a 12H706UH for the Mokes, that came after the 12H902UH Series.
Doug, I sent you some of those a while ago, have you lost them?

Re: Power Unit Serial Number Prefix Coding
From memory it didn't cover the codes above and their exact meanings, but I'll check again. I think those codes were originally used on Canadian and Swedish vehicle power plants with anti-pollution gear. That's one of the reasons they were deemed to be suitable for the Oz market.Spider wrote:Doug, I sent you some of those a while ago, have you lost them?
