Mounting opitons for fog lights on 5 bolt bumper

Post by Ratkiller »

I have a 62' Mini with 5 bolt bumpers and over riders. I don't want to drill any holes so what are my options for mounting fog lights? Pictures would help. Thanks in advance.

No holes in anything?

Get a benelite grille.

Why do you want to put a fog light on it? You don't have to put one on, there is no legal requirement!

Yea, I'm talking about the front. I just think they look cool, plus I like the yellow fog lights at night. I had a set of Wipac s on my 85' but they mounted to the existing bumper mount holes. But with this MK1 bumper, the holes on the far right and far left, are too much on the side of the car. The next set of holes are too close to the over riders to mount 5.5in lights, so that only leaves the one bumber hole in the center. I think just one light in the center would look funny. I wouldn't mind drilling holes, as log as they couldn't been seen. I want the versatility to be able to remove the lights and not have big holes in the bumper valance. The belite style grille is cool, but I really don't like the look of the big slat grilles. Plus I want to keep the original stainless steel solid vented grille I have on there now.

why don't you just use a pair of the old 'speedograph' type brackets that bolt unseen to the front panel, the grill then goes in its normal plate and leaves a flat bit poking through which the spotlight fits to.

it does mean the grill is a pain to remove, but they are a tidy solution

Do you mean a bracket with the shape like this [ . With the flat part mounted to the front panel, tabs sticking out through the grill and have the light mounted between the tabs, top and bottom?

Another alternative, which will mean the grille can be more easily removed but the lamps won't be quite so firmly mounted, is to use these "period" mounting brackets which I just happen to have for sale ;).

One of my Mk1s used the simple brackets described by Rich - that worked well until you needed to take the grille off. Depends how often you expect to do that I guess?

I like those brackets. What are the dimensions?

In old fashioned language the height of bracket is about 4.1/2inches. The mounting part sticks out about 1.3/4inches which is just enough to mount a period Lucas fog/spot lamp as pictured.
