crank identification. 1275 1100 970 1071

Post by migliacars »

This morning I was sorting out my cranks from 1000cc to 1275cc piles.
I pulled out a crank labelled up 1000cc mini, but it had the stepped crank tail.
It has been balanced and lightened so there are no marks on it except

ESC1A

I measured the big ends and there 1.625.

the label which is hand written states
mains standard
bg standard
thrusts standard

its cross drilled on the big ends

on the crank its self there is ,s, written on it in white paint.

all my cranks have come from a mini tuning company.

how will i determine what crank it is

do any 1100cc cranks have the stepped crank tail?
do any 970 or 1071 cranks have stepped tails

Yes... and 1275. Are there any AEG stamps? Try to measure the stroke.

As it's been machined, you'll have to do as migliacars suggests;-

which is easiest done in a block, or between centres (like in a lathe, but spun by hand).

Without measuring (or part numbers), anything else is a guess.

Yes, the South African 1100 crank has a stepped tail & GT size journals.

Only way to determine what your crank is is to measure the stroke.

Just to clarify Mark's post a little more, the SA 1100 Engines were a short stroke big bore, not the 1098 small bore.
