AKM 7 port start date

Post by guru_1071 »

anyone know / have any evidence when a cast iron akm seven port was first used.

one of my customers is hoping to 'stick it to the man', but needs a bit of evidence, just in case!

he is hoping pre 1976...........
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

There was a bit about it in one of the first editions of miniworld mentioned the origins and there use in rallying iirc. I'd dig it out rich but good knows where it is in the loft, if no one else can find it I'll send my parts manager up to find it

These heads were designed by race mechanic Poul Heickendorff.
The heads were cast by one Ole Rytter (same guy who did the Danish 6" Rose Petals).

7 heads were made around 1966/67 (app?) in a alloy cast.

2 were machined & finished, one worked quiet good, the other they struggled with between each race, the last 5 were discarded.

It was one of these 5 that surfaced in the late 80/early 90ies.
AKM was contacted, and it was decided to try, and make a new one in iron.
Unfortunally did the machine guys do a very poor job, and ruined deveral heads.

After a expensive court case, AKM sold the dravings to Mini sport in UK.
