Every once in a while I'll go over a speed bumb too fast causeing it to hit the exhaust pipe. If it hits too hard it pushing it up into the starter button. Most of the time when this happens it makes my stereo turn off and turn back on. But twice sence I've owned the car it has completely shorted out the strater button rendering it no good. Each time I've had to replace it.

When this first happened I created a dent or dimple in the exhaust pipe giving it a little more clearance, but this has not solved the problem. Can anybody offer a solution?

Should the exhaust not run alongside the switch and not under it?

Exhausts were kinked for cars with floor starts to clear it. Maybe yours is the later exhaust. Somerford will sell you an exhaust with the right bends in it if needs be.

Sounds like a good idea.

I should have explained... the gear change has been replaced for the later rod type, so the exhaust has a bend in it to clear that. Unfortunatily there is not very much room in that area. To clear the rod change the exhaust has to go under the starter button.

Maybe some kind of exhaust wrap might help.
