That's another way of saying that the ones currently available look good but do not perform the function for which one paid. Then there are worse ones. Pull the knob out and it comes loose from the cable.
Had a heater cable do just that yesterday. First time used. It was obvious that the crimping onto the cable was poorly done.

I know ;)

Fitted a new one, and the lock works perfectly 8-) but instead the whole knob broke off

(when I had people from UK in the car for a test drive) = not very impressive.

becourse the lock works perfect, I didnt want to change the cable, so I refitted the knob, with some epoxy.

I had the same problem when I bought one from a leading Mini parts supplier.

I found that the outer cable locking part was the bit that was useless. I had a NOS genuine MK3 cable and the repro Cooper inner cable works perfectly in the OE outer cable.

Been on my 'S' for 6 years now without any need for a clothes peg :)

Hi Brook,
I've got an ad on the "Wanted" board for a rough one at the moment. Do you still have the old one? I might be able to use it.

Take the cable apart and clean all the lubrication out of it. They don't slide so well when they are dry.

I had this trouble twice, so after cleaning and putting it back together I went at it with a soldering iron which seems to have done the trick.

Funny, I had never thought of using a peg....20 years of trying to drive and hold a stupid choke out! Its funny how the simplest things never come to mind...
