What seat trim should a 1960 deluxe have?

Post by Keith Grendahl »

June 1960 Deluxe, Export, Old English White. Assume Tartan Red carpet based on a remnant remaining on the rear seat back in the boot.

What would the interior trim have been, specifically the seat covers? The original seats are gone (Toyota seats in their place) and all the interior trim is black vinyl. I have the opportunity to purchase seats from a 1974 clubman and am thinking about covering with proper era covers from Newton.

I've been planning to purchase the mid sixties reclining seats from Newton but the clubman seats will be about half the cost, even after new foam and cover kits.

Thanks,
Keith

Keith,

My November 1960 OEW Morris has a Cherry Red/Grey Fleck interior as below. I think OEW cars had more than one colour interior and best way to find out is to get a Heritage report from BMIHT.

Others on here may be able to help more in detail.

Thanks Andrew, I think mine was the same. What I thought was tartan red is probably cherry red. A spare door check strap that was with the car is red also. I have a heritage certificate but the interior is "not recorded".

is the headliner and dash cream? Everything in mine is black.

It could well be that Tartan was an option as well. Someone on here would be able to confirm that
I'm sure.

Tartan red is much brighter than Cherry. My carpets are slightly darker than they appear in the picture and are as close as I could get to Cherry Red. The company that supplied them no longer exists :(

The headlining and dash panels are grey, not cream. Newton Commercial can supply the material for this. They do not, or didn't do, the Cherry Red / fleck combination as apparently it was not a common scheme. Funny, almost every OEW and Cherry cars I've seen have this interior. Other ones I have seen are black/ fleck.

Spanish Red & Grey Fleck seats with wide Morris flutes as per photo above. Plain Spanish Red vinyl door cards, white head lining and dash. Spanish red door straps and pocket liners. Dark red carpet.
