How do folks

What are your thoughts on me running the weber with no air filter? Is it a bad idea?

Depends on how the car's used Tom. For the odd track event it's not gonna cause you issues but if you're going to do 1000's of miles a year on the road it may well do. Best compromise is to use socks for road use.

I agree with Pete, I used to run my rally Mini without filters, but as I used it on the road as well, bore wear was appreciably higher than in my present Mini with K&N, which has done around 110,000 miles on original bores & pistons which are still looking good. Upper cylinder lubricant in the fuel can help offset extra wear caused by running without filters, I always used the old type Redex, sadly no longer available, so I use Red Line lead substitute, not only a UCL but also a sodium based oil to protect valve seats.

Its okay to run for light drag racing, quick hill climbs and rally stages maybe few laps (dependin on track)

But gotta take into account weather.

To dry = dust = more wear
to wet = weaked mixture and all sorts of problems

cold with dry air = perfect ;] nice and dense

alot of factors to take into account.

Why? Modern filters don't consume horsepower...
