7" brake calipers

Post by vegar »

I am rebuilding a set of 7" calipers, but are missing the O-rings betwin the halfs and also the bolts to hold the halfs together. MS says thiese parts are NLA. What do people do?? Where can I get hold of this??

17H8764 was the o-ring for the 7" and 7.5" calipers, the 7" bridge bolts were 27H8801 and the S bridge bolts were 17H8766, the caliper repair kit for the Cooper was 8G8587 and the S was 8G8830. Try a search for those on your Mini supplier sites. Over here, Seven Enterprises shows the o-ring still available

The bolts are generic. The rebuild kit for the calipers should still be available. Slightly different versions of the LD19 (Cooper) and LD20 (Cooper S) calipers were used on Triumph motorcycles and Formula Ford, and perhaps some early F3, race cars. Girling and later AP Racing continued the LD20 caliper for the race cars, it has a slightly different radius machined on the caliper body, but internally the same as the Mini caliper. Just pulling a number out of memory, I think the AP Racing caliper is/was CP2485, you need to search and check that, but a search for LD20 calipers should lead you to find the rebuild kit.

How impressive can this site be at times !! Great info, will be doing this myself soon, well done sir :)

My question is about the dust shields for the 7" discs. They've been NLA in UK for some time and Somerford's website says 'convert' 7.5" ones. Don't know enough to work out if this is a viable workaround - are they still available in U.S ?

Thanks :)

I got my repair kits from Autoclassic here in Norway. Sendt an email to MiniSpares in UK about the O-rings and bolts, but thay said it was NLA...

But now I have some info, I just order it and can finish off my brakes :)

I think we have one NOS section of the four for the 7" disc dust shield assembly in stock. I'll check and let you know but it will be Monday. I could probably also supply a full used set if you are not trying to put a NOS set together. Nick Rogers may also have some of these parts in the UK so you don't have post for just one part.
