Limited Slip Diffs??

Post by rolesyboy »

Does anybody know much about LSD's. I have a friend who has had one sat in his garage for a long time & wants to sell it.
I also know a guy who is after one and as middle man I want to ensure a fair price is set. I know nothing about them but an engineer had a look and declared it in good nick. How do I identify what make it is and what do I need to know about these things eg how many teeth etc. Thanks in advance. Mark

In order to use it with a mini, you will need the output shafts, diff covers and a CWP. The latter are not standard and a lot of people like lower ratios. If you have one like a 4.5:1, it will not be popular.

If it is a bare diff, in good nick, I'd say £150 or there abouts. If everyone is wanting one on ebay, they may go higher.....£200 or so. If you have a special works one with works outputs and a special works CWP, you might see £400.

(That's for a salisbury plate diff). The Pawl things are crap and around the £100 mark.

If it's a Tranex or Quaife, you're looking a lot higher...around the £400 mark.

Note whether it as the coarse output splines or the fine ones.....the fine ones are hard to get bits for, although I'm sure some of the nutters on here will insist on having one with the rare splines and pay £1000 for it. ;)
